Just Before It Went Into Reclaim




This was the second jar I made. I liked the shape. Unfortunately, I made the bottom too thin and it cracked. The more I tried to fix it, the worse things got. Finally, I decided rather than waste time and clay on a piece that will never be right, I'd take photos and put the piece out of its misery. It's now reclaim.

If you like that shape... You can cut a template out of heavy cardboard (or thin plywood) and hold it the side of the pot as you add each coil. Make the template part that sits on the table very wide so that it always sits the same way every time you pick it up. I've seen this tool used successfully. The insides are really coming along smoothly. Practice makes perfect.
