Dyeing

I've been wanting to take some white crochet thread and dye it. So  I did. It's not dry yet. I wrapped the thread around a quilt ruler, slid the thread off, and tied it in four places. This should make white spots here and there. Can't wait to use it to crochet something.

I did my dyeing in quart jars using about 1/2 tsp. of dye in each jar. That might be a tad too much dye. I'd like the yellow and the deep green to be less concentrated. Next batch of crochet will go into jars with 1/4 tsp of dye.

I've got an idea floating in my brain about how to use all these odds and end pieces in a quilt.

Wow, those are some bright colors!
May be shorter dye times, too.

Deb,for whatever reason, as soon as I saw these particular pieces, I envisioned an under-the-sea quilt, especially in the bright colors. These will be fun to use.

Deb,
I like the colors you have so far. More sampling is in order - how about suspending a tiny skein in a jar for a while, squeeze it and let it dry and suspend it again the other way in another color. Make your own space dyes. Watch out for mud, though!

Or you could tightly wrap part of tiny skein with plastic wrap to have a more definite separation of color. Then layer colors. Start with yellow and then remove the plastic wrap and dip into blue. Fun stuff!

Lovely results. I have a LOT of white yarn and now I know what I'm going to do with it. Thank you.

OOps! I meant to say that I have a lot of white crochet "thread" instead of yarn.

Wow--great colors...but then I love saturated color. I can't wait to see what you do with these crocheted bits.
Have fun!!
