Nook, Kindle, E-Reader Pouches

I've been making pouches to hold a nook, Kindle or other e-reader. I'm slowly putting them into my etsy store. 


The pouches are machine quilted, with a layer of polyester batting between two pieces of cotton. I made the prototype for my self, and I love how it protects my nook when I carry it in my purse or tote bag. 

I needed to relax, so I started playing with beads and wire. Here are some of the results. 

Must...... Make..... Earrings.......

I had an idea for earrings floating about in my head. The original idea contained swavorski crystals. I decided to practice a bit with other beads to get the technique down before using crystals. I like how these earrings are turning out. I'm thinking about buying several colors of jump rings..... or not...... 

Pots From 3/23/11 Firing

The bottom pot is where we discovered we had bought a miserable glaze. It's a matt white and Jim was sure he did a better job of glaze application than that. 
I'm liking how the forms are coming along. All are inspired by the Qumran Jars in which the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. 

More Crystal Earrings

More fun with swarovski crystals. These earrings are for me. 

Crystals And Sterling

I thought I'd treat myself to some fancy earrings. The swirly parts are sterling and the crystals are from swarovski.

My latest beaded earrings. I wanted something red, so that's the top pair. The bottom pair looks better in real life - as always. The crystal beads are a delicate beige that go great with the turquoise beads.

Mezuzah Covers 3-22-11

The one in the middle warped during glaze firing, so it's an inside only mezuzah cover. The other two could be either outside or inside.

I'm not wild about what happened when I used reduction from ^08 all the way up to ^5. I think I prefer reduction from ^08 through^1, then oxidation to ^5. But... if you don't test out new ideas you don't know if you're missing out on some great results. 

Firing 3-22-11

I tried a bit of an experiment with this load. Instead of firing reduction from ^08 through ^1, I fired reduction from ^08 through ^5. I'm not sure I'm all that thrilled with the results. I did like what was happening with the shorter reduction. 

This time, the unglazed  Anasazi clay turned toasty brown. It's a nice color, but I like the streakiness of the colors on the unglazed with I use a shorter reduction. 

I'm about ready to give up on Coyote Clay glazes. A few do better in reduction. I'm still having problems with getting the application even. Jim is having the same problem and his glazing skills are better than mine. 

The pieces were still too hot to unload, so I only took a few photos. More photos when we unload the kiln.
