Little Pinch Pots
I started making small pinch pot bowls last semester. I like the bowls, but I'm not happy with the quality of my work. I had some time today, so I made some pinch pots paying attention to craft. I'm not where I want to be, but I'm improving.
Every clay class I've taken has started with pinch pots, as if they are easy. And they are. At least, it's really easy to make very bad pinch pots.
I hated making them, so during the last class that I took, I made a lot of them. I got really anal about it- measured out the clay with a gram sensitive scale to see if I could make the same weight come out to the same size. I made a bunch of balls of clay and then I made pinch pots, and I made pinch pots, and I made pinch pots. They got a lot better - my second pinch pot teapot didn't look like a sad deformed frog.
I'm enjoying your blog and Facebook posts as I am missing clay for the most part these days.
